From The University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University: An
Unforced Error by an error-prone President!
The changing of the University of Lagos name to Moshood Abiola
University seems to us an unforced error by a President who is willing
to use all means to secure a second term, and he thinks the way to
securing it is through the people of the South West! It seems to us
that this president has no clue about the psyche of an average South
Westerner, and we predict this latest act is also the reason why we
think he has destroyed his chance to a second term in this zone.NigerianNews

Frisky Larr's Current Column Is Oshiomole getting
too desperate in Edo State? by Frisky Larr
Within the past two months, Nigerians have witnessed not less than
ten media headlines reporting the alarm raised by Governor Adams
Oshiomole over impending electoral manipulations in Edo state. Each
time, he is accusing the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
of planning to rig the forthcoming gubernatorial election in that
state coming up in July 2012. He raised the alarm the loudest, when
he narrowly escaped death from a traffic mishap, in which a tractor
reportedly ran into a vehicle in his convoy traveling to Benin en
route from a political event.NigerianNews

Mrs. Johnson’s Gaffe on President Jonathan by Atsar Terver
One of the biggest jokes of the year is the recent publication by
Times Magazine in which Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan was named
among the 100 most influential persons in the world. One thing I must
admit upfront is that being, the President over a country of over
160million people, who are directly affected by decisions taken by him
and Nigeria being an oil producing country whose policies affect the
global energy market, every Nigerian President automatically qualifies
to be named an influential person. But that is just where Jonathan’s
qualification ends. Any further criteria that relates to leadership
performance, Integrity, anti-corruption, good governance,
transparency, promotion of social welfare and respect for human rights
and the rule of law must be watered down below the barest minimum
standards for him to qualifyNigerianNews

by

Ikes Ogune, Esquire
Today, while everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of discussing the
change of Unilag’s name, I prefer to revisit an old and now very familiar
friend: the Nigerian judiciary. For one thing, the Unilag name change is
only a superficial expression of the larger issue of executive power, which
is more substantively linked to judicial malfeasance. I really understand
the beef with the change, believe me, but people should care more about the
poor state of the education at the university than its name. So I prefer to
talk about the Nigerian judiciary. Just this April, James Ibori went to
prison in Britain because he stole money from Delta State. We all hewed and
hawed for about a minute and then went about our business. What got lost in
translation was the opportunity to address a very nagging problem in
Nigeria, which is the absolute failure of the country’s judiciary.NigerianNews Special

Practice Forgiveness: A Powerful Tool to
Open the Door of God's Blessings
by
Minister Ayodele Mobolurin
The goal of forgiveness is restoration. Restoration of your peace
of mind and restoration of a broken relationship. The second goal may not be
possible, because the other party does not want to put away the contention.
However, the first is achievable, since it depends only on one party to the
contentious issue. Forgiveness is a powerful tool for restoring your peace
of mind. You are at peace even with those that consider you an enemy.
The scripture commands forgiveness

BECOMING A RESPONSIBLE, CONFIDENT AND SAFE DRIVER by Adewale T. Akande
Driving is a serious responsibility with physical and mental abilities
impacting on the driving activities of a driver. It is more than
moving a vehicle and knowing how to use the accelerator, brake pedals
and steering. Driving is at best when you have knowledge and required
skills to drive competently in accordance with those rules and
regulations guiding the public roads. A safe and responsible driver
has responsibility which makes him a good citizen. Driving is a
learned skill acquired with much practice. It is also more important
to drive with due regards for safety and convenience of other road
users. Driving entails concentration, calmness, and with consideration
and respect for others. And at the same time, a driver should ensure
proper and total control of his vehicle at all times. That means a
driver must not allow anything to take their attention from the road,
therefore good anticipation and concentration will help to prevent
these usual incident becoming accidents on our roads. The safety of
others depends on you when you are on the wheel.NigerianNews Guest
