Ignore the blast, Fr Kukah
NigerianNews Editorial

There is no doubt we are in full support of the intention and potential of PRONACO conference over the pre-ordained outcome of the Abuja Dialogue. That is precisely why we believe PRONACO should have been represented to prevent the possible rubber stamping of the pre-ordination.

While President Obasanjo and the Governors picked the delegates, there have been unrelenting cries by the Muslims that they are being short changed, at the same time, the "Pro-democracy" people cried foul that the delegates were not elected. Were the "Pro-democracy" people out of the country during the last nation-wide elections? If the answer is "in Nigeria", then what difference would it have made if the current people in Abuja were to stand for election? The same people would have "won" hands down. The elections in the Rivers' Obua/Odua or the presidential election in Ogun State has not escaped our minds at the NigerianNews. The fact is, election does not matter in the current dispensation.

This is why people of righteous mind ought to be represented so that they can expose the many impending hanky and panky at the conference. PRONACO missed the opportunity by not showing up to increase the "non-contractors" members of the conference. We have already witnessed, in spite of the integrity of Chief Akinjide and Dr Akinyemi panel, the "elected" governors of the South West have concluded that supporting Obasanjo's wishes are much more important than the yawning desires of the South Western Nigerian people, and so, these "elected" governors will support Zeus, less he descends on them from mount Olympus

We have doubted the stay home wisdom of PRONACO from the beginning, however, we defer to them because of what they know, which we do not know. Balarabe Musa, a week earlier, had exposed the weak link in the PRONACO chains. The agenda of the Musa group is to supply the furniture to the edifice, the structural details a lasting edifice requires are of no use to them. There is a fear in the group they represent that the new structure may demolish some privileges. You may say this man does not even enjoy the privileges now. That is true, but his home base seem to subliminally think the base does. In our opinion, if this base does, it is shortsighted and temporary, as it is not sustainable. That is why we must all work together to build for tomorrow and not the temporary privileges of today.

Chief Gani Fawehinmi is a great and admirable nationalist, but, on this issue of the attendance at the Abuja confab, we believe Kuka and all incorruptible minds should all be there to keep vigil. Contrary to the allegation of the "lure of office", attendance does not make Fr. Kuka a degenerate. We believe the presence of Chief Fawehinmi, Chief Enahoro, Professor Soyinka and Mr. Beko Kuti, in addition to Kuka at the conference could have prevented unwanted practices and the pre-ordained outcome. It would have been either the prevention of these vices or a walk-out from the conference. A walk out based on the unyielding desire to lay good structure for Nigeria would have exposed and invalidated the Abuja conference outcome. This in effect would have strengthened PRONACO as the people's real alternative to the Abuja conference.

We are afraid the PRONACO effort at its own conference, no matter how well meaning will eventually become "By what authority thou doeth this" - to quote the good Holy book
