NBA call for court boycott,
hypocrisy and the
equal
opportunity riggers
Agbakoba opined the other time that what Atiku did why immoral, was not
illegal. The Supreme Court Justices who sat on the case went to "rent"
Agbakoba's words "immoral but not illegal". Agbakoba promptly proclaimed
vindication! While he saw vindication, we saw a coerced and none
proactive
Supreme Court fumbling in apparent lack of imagination. It is our opinion that it is part of
the job of the Supreme Court to rule on acceptable morals in the
country, and when they do, it becomes the law and an addition to the
mores of our society. However, this echo chamber Supreme court simply took the
line of least resistance, perhaps with little intellectual depth and in
an action devoid of meaningful and positive
contribution!!

We highly respect Chief Gani Fawehinmi at the
NigerianNews, however, if the
lawyers and the Judges were to go on strike on cases that they may have
to handle by taking position a priori, what is the point filing election
petition either way? Is it not better that other organization but not
the officers of the law be the organizers of strike? What happens to the word "sub judice" especially when the
officers of the law are the ones violating the principle?

Thanks to the Supreme Court, a Vice President is now no longer a deputy
but a co-equal entity in the presidency. It is interesting to see that
what Obasanjo labored but failed to achieve at the National Assembly
dominated by his own party, Tinubu who did not see any thing good in
what Obasanjo was trying to do, just got his own deputy impeached. We
know despite the charges, Deputy Gov. Pedro was impeached for
insubordination, one of the charges against Atiku, Tinubu's mentor. This
poor guy Pedro legitimately resigned before he was impeached, but Tinubu
feigned the reception of the letter of resignation. Such is the
hypocrisy of our system. Agbakoba and his NBA have not considered
putting out a word on this wrongful impeachment. You cannot impeach a
guy who has already resigned. While we congratulate the honorable way
Pedro resigned, we wish we can say the same thing about Atiku. However,
we would like to hear from Agbakoba on the Pedro saga.
Coming back to court boycott, we definitely support what Chief Gani Fawehinmi said
about the actual act of election rigging,
however, we think he is calling on the wrong people to go on strike. If
these people do boycott the court, regardless of the legitimacy of their claims, greater
injustice is done to the defendants - the equal opportunity riggers,
since the outcome of litigations would have been tainted by the officers
of the law seemingly taking sides before the cases are heard. It is not
wrong for officers of the law to hold opinions, but they compromise
themselves and the course of justice when they boycott the court in
protest because they think those who are coming before them are guilty
even before the judges hear the lawyers argue the cases.
We believe the place to show their anger is in the vigorous prosecution
and the defense of their cases depending on which side
of the litigations they are. Frankly, we are very disturbed by the
prejudicial emotionalism of the Agbakoba NBA. The lawyers and justices
are either past or present members of the NBA and we find it odd that
the first organization to pervert the course of justice in the present
dispensation is the NBA. There is no doubt this NBA, because of the mood
of the country seeks cheap popularity rather than the law. Some have
even said that the current leadership of the NBA have there eyes on some
pre arranged and long determined, veiled rewards. The people with this
view also wonder why it is the job of the NBA to prevent the legislative
part of our system from performing their duties as they see it, after
all, if they are wrong, unrigged elections and the courts, if not
impeded by unsolicited activism again by the NBA, in some cases have
proven they are equal to the occasion.
At the
NigerianNews, we believe the
greatest service the NBA can render to the Election Tribunals is to ask
their members to be vigorous in the pursuit of their sides, no matter
how despicable we may think those sides are. After all,
a lawyer must represent both the innocent and the guilty, that is the
nature of our system. We have tried here to reason with the Agbakoba
NBA, unfortunately, we have failed to find a common ground, even though
sometimes we may have the same subliminal concerns for so many ugly
events.
