The North - South Zonal Asymmetry

Remember, the reason for zonal creation was for North - South balance? Right now, there is a state of geographical North - South revenue and political  asymmetry and depravity!! The North has 19 States, and the South has 17 States. You see, the honourable Rep. from the South East, if you do not know your right, others do. You are also expected to fight for the South  and perhaps the future stability of Nigeria - Haba

 

The Representative from Nnewi North/Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, C.I.D Maduabum was quoted in the Tribune today that The South-East geo-political zone of the country has so far lost N200 billion for being one state short since 1999.
 
What this Rep failed to notice is that four other zones are also victims of the greedy octopus.

It seems South East always mainly competes with South South, South West,  North Central, and North East, the senior partner zone is always left alone and unoffended! However, this is the real state of the zonal injustice; the South East is owed two more States, while South South, South West, North East and the North Central are owed one more state each.

While your fight is only with the four other zones and not the sacred cow zone, justice must also be done to those zones owed one more State each. It is either that or the best remedy is put in place, that is; North West relinquishes its seventh state to the good people of the South East, that way, every zone has SIX States bringing symmetry to the original zonal concept of fiscal and political equilibrium. The South East being awarded one more state leaves more unsolved problem of this political imbalance to providence or to generations unborn.

As you can see, South East is not the only victim, four other zones are too!! Nigeria cannot survive mainly on oil as a largesse by creating more states. The best way to solve this problem is the relinquishing of the seventh state by the North West, but it will never happen. Meanwhile there is not enough money in this country to pay for the unintended consequences of more state creation. Nigeria lacks statesmen, and this becomes more obvious in the current discussions about presidential zoning. We read in the Daily Trust of Friday about the beggars including the Almajaris in the North, and we all fell very bad. It becomes apparent that the fight is not really between North and South, but between greed and more greed!!!
