Conscience and moral Absolutism versus Minimalism

Conscience and moral Absolutism versus Minimalism
NigerianNews Editorial

Predictably, knowing us at the NigerianNews, we are emphatically moral and conscience absolutists. If you are not sure of what side to take in the case of Ngige versus Obi, search through your conscience. A solid knowledge of a problem empowers you with the correct moral position. Our position in the case of Ngige versus Obi is that the conscience absolutism triumphs over moral minimalism. So, congratulations Mr. Peter Obi

We are never afraid of taking any position here at the NigerianNews, and we expect a lot of emails pros and cons on this matter. We are even going to be accused of silence when Obasanjo was declared victorious over Buhari. We would also get to hear that Obi won because Obasanjo does not like Ngige. To all of these assertions, study the situations and you will see why conscience and moral absolutism prevail in this particular case.

Ngige was an apostle of "the end justifies the means", and as the results show, 425 witnesses on his side and only 45 on behalf of Obi later, good conscience and moral absolutism prevail and the tribunal was able to come with what we at the NigerianNews consider the correct and reassuring decision.

A moral minimalist will lay all of Ngige's problem on the step of Aso Rock, while the mortgaging of the Anambra treasury as a pre-condition for fraudulently winning the gubernatorial election will not make any difference to these people. Many a good Nigerian saw Ngige's problem as a problem of Aso Rock trying to destabilize Anambra, because we could not sign on to this oxymoronic thinking, we decided not to comment on the issue until this case is resolved by this tribunal. The morality of Ngige and his discarded mentor has no appeal to us here at the NigerianNews.

Ngige was twice morally flawed and challenged. He tricked his fraudulent mentor into rigging the election on his behalf, and having achieved that, he turned on his Ali Baba friend and mentor, thinking the end has now justified his means to the Anambra Governor's house. For whatever the lesson is worth, the Anambra tribunal has shown the way on how nemesis can quickly catch up on future Ali Babas.

It now remains to be seen how quickly the Appeal Court will dispose of any anticipated appeal by Ngige. Hopefully, money will not change hands and this case is not dragged until the end of the Gubernatorial term. We hope the Appeal Court will also put an end to the Anambra governorship being decided at a swearing ritual in Okija. This case stinks, and many decent Nigerians who should know better could not separate their differences with the executive in Abuja from the absurdity of the events in Awka, to these decent people, the door-mat was the easy way out, moral and conscience minimalism were the correct vehicle, forgetting that Obi is a native Anambran who also deserves to enjoy the mandate freely given him by the people of Anambra. These people see Aso Rock as the problem, and so, Ngige was carried shoulder high.

It is a shame, two years to the end of the gubernatorial term, this case has just been handed down. We hope rather than delay Anambra people's mandate thereby prolonging the peoples agony, this case should now be laid to rest with the experience learnt from it allowed to find its way to the National Assembly where a legislation to a quick electoral contest resolution can be crafted for future use. The appeal court must not allow Ngige to further prolong the agony of the people of Anambra, for he himself knows that he did not win the Anambra peoples mandate, he knows Peter Obi did.
