Dear Editor,

WHY I DISAGREE WITH THE ORDER MADE BY THE SUPREME COURT IN AMAECHI V. OMEHIA ON THURSDAY, 25TH OCTOBER, 2007

I want to say that I am in full support of what the chief said, the people of rivers state did not vote for Amechi, why should he be sworn in, I am not a lawyer , but in the eyes of equity, fairness, and justice it is not okay, rather the supreme court should have ruled for another gubernatorial election ,I think this should be the case not the other way round, but I hail them (the supreme court) for sacking Omehia.I there borrow chief Gani’s word this is judicial imposition.

Dear Editor,

On Ettheh and OBJ

I am not a politician, neither am I into public commentary. I am just an ordinary Nigerian, and you should consider my comments as that from an ordinary man who feels so sad about what is happening in my country and wish to just vent my frustrations, maybe i will begin to feel better when i express my feelings in writing.

Feel so sad watching what our House of Representatives have turned into. Whether Madame Speaker, Mrs Patricia Etteh is guilty or not, one would expect her not to preside over a case involving her. Common sense should tell us that. It is the honorable thing to do. And it is very sad that a life had to be lost in the whole fracas.

I love the Nigerian News Web site and it is usually the first page I open everyday whenever I am on the internet as a quick link to all the Nigerian News and newspapers. But i cant help feeling sad about your tacit support for Mr. Obasanjo, the ex-president. Even a blind man would see through your commentaries, especially those from Mr. Larr that your are unapologetically sympathetic with all of Obasanjo's policies and government. Obasanjo brought Etteh, and with all his supposed fight against corruption, we hear he is one of the persons strongly supporting Etteh to insist on staying there because, the powers like him are behind her. Even trying to rally support for her through meetings at Aso Rock with PDP Governors.

I was an ardent supporter of Obasanjo's reform policies until I began to see the lack of sincerity and the obvious move to enrich himself, and his cronies at all cost through the selling of our national assets at give away prices and without following due process. the sale of NITEL/MTEL is a good example. Now after a year, both entities are worse off than when they were under government ownership because they were sold to an incompetent investor company belonging to Obasanjo. I hope you people will have a turn around and stop insisting on sticking to your views at all cost. Obasanjo is a hypocrite and a wicked man.

I can go on and on. I am not a politician, I am an ordinary Nigerian working and depending on my modest salary to cater for my family, suffering and smiling. At least, I can smile. Those leaders may have so much money, but i doubt if they are really happy.

God help us. But please, I would like to read some honest, balanced commentaries form the Nigerian news that does justice to happenings in Nigeria without the always painting OBJ as good and everybody else as bad. If an honest probe of the OBJ years and his supposed fight against curroption were to be carried out, we would all be shocked about what really went on and why inspite of all the reforms, Nigerians are still suffering. We need sincere leaders that will put Nigeria ahead of their selfish and personal interests.

It is not all about big grammar from detached Nigerians in the diaspora, it is about the true feelings of ordinary Nigerians on the street who know what is happening and have to keep living under these repressive regimes, suffering, yet unable to even complain.

God help us.

Dan.

Editor's Reply:

Dear Dan,

We have taken NO stand, one way or the other on Ettehgate. We have however expressed shock at resort to the fist rather than the vote. How do you evict a woman who refuses to step down from presiding over her own litigation?

You know you cannot kill her, the only weapon available is the rule of law (vote her out). It is a shame a man has to die over this scandal. Tell me, if this is only one of myriad of problems the House has to solve? Is it not more reasonable to use the law to remove her if she would not step down? And how is the law used in a democracy? Remember it is the law of Caesar, not the law of God! If I will have to choose between the law of God and the law of Caesar, I will choose the law of God. I am sure you wrote in the manner of a man who loves God. Democracy (Rule of Caesar) is the worst form of government except the alternative. We may have the same interest and same desire, however, in the wisdom of the Good Shepherd Himself, one has to render to Caesar that which is Caesar, and unto God that which is God. If the House had done that, Dr. Safana might still be alive.

Please read our interview with Mr. Ojo Maduekwe. You will find that Mr. Maduekwe did not think we are on OBJ or PDP side.

Warmest regards

Dear Editor,

INCESSANT ROBBERY IN UZUAKOLI

On behalf of indigene of Uzuakoli in Bende Local Government of Abia State, I appeal to the Commission of police, Abia state Command to come to our aid.

Uzuakoli since early this year have not known peace. The reason was not unconnected to the dare Devil Armed Robbers that have been terrorizing the community. Indigenes of this Community that is about 10 to 20minutes drive from Umuahia Abia state capital have been sleeping with their two eyes wide open. The robbers operate between midnight till 3am on daily bases without any interruption from any quarter. I was a victim when they attacked my house on October 14th 2007. I just came home to see my aged mother when the ugly incident happened. They not only ransacked the entire house, the women were also molested. But what baffled me was on Monday morning when I was rushing back to Abuja the police had already mounted a roadblock as early as 6am. Please do not ask me what the police that were employed to secure the lives of their citizens were busy doing; collecting their normal 20 Naira from every vehicle that passes. Infact! My heart bleeds for our dear country; how can they face the robbers when they have soiled their hands with bribe. Vehicles were allowed to pass without thorough searching provided you give them their 20 Naira. The armed robbers still made their way back to Umuahia despites the police roadblocks where most of them are based. Infact there is problem in this country; where innocent person will be languishing in cell while the armed robbers will be working freely in the street enjoying their loot.

I was reliably told that these robbers after an operation go back to Umuahia. However, their informants may be indigenes. Police should come to the community and do thorough checking to fish out these bad eggs from Uzuakoli Community.

We the indigenes of Uzuakoli are appealing to the police to come to our aids before things get out of hand.

Dear Editor,

NFA/NFL CRISIS:ONIGBINDE AND FOREIGN ADMINISTRATORS.

The recent assertion by Festus Onigbinde that foreign administrators are what Nigeria needs (please see Gaurdian, Saturday 13th,2007) is uncalled for. It is true as opined by Onigbinde that the problem with our football is management, but it is totally misleading to suggest that only a foreign manager can put Nigeria football back on track! I wish Onigbinde had suggested this when he was in charge of the national team.

Onigbinde, rightly pointed out, that Ghana is better organised than Nigeria; but he forgot to remind Nigerians, that Ghanians are in charge of managing their own football and not foreing admistrator!

I believe there are capable Nigerian football administrators around; we only need to support and Believe in them.

Sincerely yours,

Harry Biosah

Dear Editor,

Etteh bigger than Nigerian Nation?

I do not believe my eyes that people will see light but instead follow the part of darknes.Gross shame to Yoruba leaders,Obj`s,PDP leaders who have thrown their shameless support for madam speaker simply because she is of Yoruba origin.

Why should retaining Etteh as the house speaker at all cost more important to these rogues than the integrity of NIGERIA and office of the speaker. Why should tribal sentiment come into this.Where were these leaders when under OBJ - Presidency(a westerner) Chuba Okadigbo(Easterner) and Wabara(Easterner) suffered the same fate in the Senate. You are ironically setting dangerous precedent. It is Etteh today, tomorrow it will be someone else and he/she can do anything and cite Ette`h case to justify why he/she will not resign.

You should first think of the Country before your various tribes and affinities. If Etteh succeeds in keeping her position this will embolden the next speaker to do the same thing and look for the support of his own tribe members and Kings men as well.Etteh is not bigger than Nigeria and i believe that Nigeria will still exist with or without Etteh as the speaker of the house of representatives .Yoruba and PDP Leaders don't think with your pocket but rather how to move Nigeria forward. The world and Nigerians abroad are watching.Good luck to Nigeria
