Good day sir,

GOVERNOR AKALA - STOP THIS JOCK

Please permit me a space to air my opinion on the above subject matter via your medium.

The executive governor of Oyo State Adebayo Alao Akala last week issued a 2 day ultimatum to the striking workers of the state at the expiration of which he threatened to lay the off. At the expiration of the
ultimatum Akala fulfilled what he said by sacking the 34,000 workers in the state.

I will like Akala to have a second thought over this impetuous decision of his. Has he forgotten that he is not only sacking these workers but also their numerous dependants? Since when has it turned a crime for
workers to demand for what rightly belongs to them? If Akala believes the workers' demands have some
political undertone, let him yield to their demands and see if the workers will not return to work .Akala
who was trying to justify his actions said there is precedence. He said, at a time, some striking universities lecturers of the University of Ibadan were laid off. Has Akala forgotten that happened during the military era and that the worst civilian rule is far better than the best military rule.

Since there is a pending suit before the Industrial Court, I think Akala's action is prejudicial and hence
should be resisted by the Attorney General Of the federation-"an apostle of rule of law" and President
Umaru Yar'Adua who often say the watch word of his government is rule of law.. I think the governor of the pace setters need to be cautioned not to set a very bad precedence and pace for other governors to follow.

Dear Editor,

Ugly development in my school Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri Imo-State

I wish to report this ugly development in my school Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri Imo-State.

The development is all about H.N.D aptitude test. Infact, I was totally disappointed with the number of candidates sitting for the test.

I know vividly that the number of student that merited the school approved GP in department are not up to 200 students, but we are more than 800

That wrote the exam. The worst is that the school is not ready to accept more than 300 student in the department, pls advice them to pick their current students

Before accepting any other application from any student from outside so as to avoid destroying once career.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Sammy.

LETTERS TO Mr Frisky Larr

Atsar: U missed the point again

Dear Mr. Larr,

I read your rejoinder of my article on Abati this morning. I tought I could not resist the urge to laugh out loud but lukily I did. I could easily do a counter rejoinder, but unfortunately, I am not in the mudslinging profession like you ok? So for the sake of sanity, I tought I should contact you privately as I always do in order to avoid painting the picture that am fighting a personality  war with anybody.

Let me say that I was not disappointed at all, in fact I would have been rather disappointed if u wrote differently as I have come to realise that you believe you owe the world a responsibility to counter my views on whatever topic. So it was easy for you to reconcile with Abati, who was  hitherto on the other side of  the divide, as long as it served this purpose-oppose Atsar.

Again I was not suprised because, I didn't expect to touch an 'untouchable' like Abati and go free. I am expecting more from his fans. I know his ego will prevent  him (Abati) from responding himself because he will regard it as stooping too low. At least that will save me from his bullets.

Now back to your rejoinder, I dont think you made a new point because you only stated that you are among those I already recognise, who  believe Abati and maybe yourself are too intellectually robust to be challenged regardless of the emptiness of  his (and your) stand point. Now, I also consider you as having a bloated assessment of yourself as a superoir intellectual who is qualified to challenge Abati's stand on Soludo and other issues. In order words, you see yourself as a 'General' as well. So constables like me should keep quiet and allow fellow Generals, like Frisky Larr to engage Abati (lol)

Unfortunately am not intimidated in anyway by your invectives, even Abati can not muzzle me. So just get ready to hit your delete key on your computer  anytime u see my stuff, since u believe they are fit for the dust-bin ok? That will mean just 1000 minus one from my audience. I think that will be too insignificant to shake me because my regular reader base has grown from zero in 2004 to over 1000 today and it keeps growing.

will continue to call a spade a spade, at least that is allowed under my right to freedom of speach and I am not under an obligation to seek your approval or support for my views.

On the extreme, to save yourself from high blood pressure, you can engage the editor of NigerianNews and advise him to reject my articles hanceforth since you believe crabs like me have infested the forum. Good luck.

Regards
Atsar.

Mr Larr's Reply

Re: U missed the point again

Jesus! What a fury. You sound dead angry and badly hurt! All these stuffs are not made to be taken personally. This is precisely what the game of writing is all about Sir. Shooting your missiles in facts and figures and standing your grounds when they are sustainable. If they are not, it also requires the honor of conceding deficits. Your arguments on the Minister of Justice were simply too emotional and less fact-based Sir. I guess you would have read in my submission that this is the first issue, on which I am agreeing with Reuben Abati. I am far from being his fan my dear Engineer Terver. I just don't agree with many of your views because I find them too simplistic. This is in no way made to represent a derogation of your person. It is simply one of the hazards of such public outings alongside the numerous benefits.

Hope the temperature will calm down a bit Sir.

God bless!

-Frisky Larr

Dear Sir (to Larr),

GENERALS MIGHT BE WRONG by (ADEBAYO AYORINDE <bayorinde2000@yahoo.com .)

You write well but you have carefully avoided the issue at hand, I keep asking my self one question, what do we want in Nigeria? I am not a writer, journalist, politician or a sycophant. If the Attorney General was wrong then I guess Ribadu should be right. But from my point of view the constitution is bigger than any individual and should not be subjected to ribadu rather Ribadu should be subjected to the constitution. The only reason why we have legislators is to amend our laws and make more laws anywhere there is a loophole but pending the time that there is no law or the constitution supports whatever then so be it.

Sir,

Ask your self some questions and do not confuse lay men like me. I believe in the cause of the present administration just for one thing which is "the rule of Law ". If the rule of law can be really entrenched in Nigeria the common man like me will have hope and believe in the Word called Nigeria. There is this believe that once you are rich or you are in a certain position then you are untouchable , I am waiting for a day when the rule of law becomes the order of the day in this country then maybe our legislators will know that they will have to start making or amending laws rather than awarding contracts .

Do not forget that if we illegally arrest and imprison criminals like Kalu then we should be ready that the day we have a criminal as president he will have the moral right to do whatever he likes, I might not be able to explain my self but I know you get a picture of what I am saying, Please lets follow the rule of law first then every other thing shall follow. Give the common man reason to be proud of been a Nigerian.

I respect your views and your passionate love for Nigeria but we should learn to be patient for things to take shape , even if it takes years Justice must be done , Its better than the rush and deceit that efcc is doing named Plea bargain . Morally

REMEMBER THAT WHAT IS MORALLY RIGHT MIGHT NOT BE LEGALLY RIGHT.

Mr Larr's reply

Dear Sir,

Thanks a lot for those brilliant views. I quite agree with you that the rule of law should be sustained and made to prevail.

My problem is that this issue is currently being perverted in a very sophisticated manner. The solidity of the rule of law as presented by you took centuries to build up in functional democracies. Nigeria has been looted for too long. Prominent thieves have been kept too long in face-saving sanctuaries. Nuhu Ribadu has the courage of setting a brutal example like Tunde Idiagbon. His problem is that he is unfortunately a friend of Olusegun Obasanjo. That is precisely what all this stuff of the rule of law is about when it comes to the EFCC Sir. Getting rid of him would represent a break with the legacies of Obasanjo. That is precisely where advisers are driving the current President. But a man of Ribadu's guts should be empowered not dismantled (Obasanjo or not). That is what many Nigerians recognize in their uproar at the move to dismantle Ribadu. I guess we are both heading for the same direction and only pointing out two sides of the coin. And mark my words Sir, Ribadu may well be a sound Presidential material for the future.

Cheers Sir!

Dear Editor,

Democracy

So much have been said, and written on the Nigerian state, but not much has been said about Democracy, I keep telling my Brother who is a Medical Doctor working in Nigeria, that Nigeria would never know peace nor would she move forward until we practise true democracy: lets call a spade a spade Nigeria isn’t practising democracy, you may want to ask what is democracy?,  Democracy is   Government by the people and for the people, but what we have in Nigeria today is Government selected by Lords fostered on the people, and all the parties are guilty of this, just take a look at the party primaries all the candidates where fostered on the party it’s either they where selected or interested  candidates where blackmailed in dropping their ambition ( PDP is a very good example of this )

All Political Parties are also guilty of this. Even  AD or AC  which is supposed to be a collection of Democrats is not better off, Lagos this brings to mind Lagos State primaries , other parties  are now crying wolf that Yar Adua is fostered on the Nation, Yet they all  did the same in the primaries so who is fooling who.

The Political foundation in Nigeria is built on false hood and that is why there is so much political instability in Nigeria.

It’s only in Nigeria that civil servants are millionaires;   I couldn’t believe that a serving  Director of the CBN (civil servant )could declare    #460million in liquid assets likewise Mr Babalola a Director of the First Bank, this can only happen in Nigeria, can these two officers explain how they made their wealth? I doubt.

The present Attorney General has said the FG won’t obey court orders, yet he claims to be a lawyer he should know better, does this not contradict the President on rule of law? , this same Minister took it upon himself in declaring that Soludo didn’t follow the due process  in law  the rest is history,  he should have been the Minister of Justice under OBJ because he is a Tyrant and power drunk.

Every thing is upside down, the President confirmed this by saying the elections where rigged massively, so his Government has legitimate right to Govern but alas it’s Nigeria where anything goes, now it’s Business as usual.

The legislators aren’t better what Bills have they passed to improve the lots of the citizens? None except increasing their pay package and renovating their accommodation.

I once asked a young Guy what his political ideology was all he could say was that he needed to be in the ruling party; until we have true politicians not Job seekers in Politics then Nigeria wouldn’t know Democracy.

Democracy is the symbol of good governance, once you have a Good government in place there would be Economic development , political development & social development  with peace ( Niger/Delta).

All we have is a wuru-wuru, to the answer ala OBJ style & “arrangy” Government, ( Fela may your soul rest in peace).

Dear Frisky:

GIVE MADAM SPEAKER A FREE HEARING

Please permit me a space in your widely newspaper to air my view on the above subject matter.

The recent renovation scandal rocking the House of Representatives did not come to most Nigerians as a surprise since a lot of such had been seen, heard and witnessed, but the only difference this is making is that it is coming at the dawn of a government that has extensively declared its zero tolerance for corruption.

Though the person at the center of the saga-Madam Speaker says she is innocent of the allegations. Though there is the need to respect her freedom to free hearing, it will be quite disappointing if at the end of the day she is found culpable. It does not worth hearing that in a country where a very large percentage of her citizens live below one dollar per day, a colossal and dreadful sum of N628 million was spent on the renovation of the official residence of Madam Speaker, the Deputy speaker and the purchase of 12 cars not forgetting that the said residences were tastefully and chicly refurbished in 2003. One might need to ask madam speaker that if the said renovation was to be done on her personal building and the money from her purse, will she have spent a sum N238 million naira on it?

It is on this note that I implore the honorable and distinguished representatives and the national assembly in general to swing into action of probing into the allegation and appropriate disciplinary measure taken against anyone found liable. And to the biggest party in Africa, this must not be treated as another family affair hence; attempts must not be made to sweep it under the carpet as this is now a national affair. If such a gigantic amount is spent on renovating the residential building of the speaker and deputy speaker, how much will be required to renovate Aso Rock-the seat of Federal Power?
