PRESS RELEASE

Egbe Omo Yoruba Strongly Supports Gani Adams and warns Government to desist from actions that may cause the disintegration of Nigeria.

Egbé Omo Yorùbá notes with deep concern the breaking news that Mr. Gani Adams, a leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), has given himself up willingly to the Police in Lagos.

Reports also have it that the Police, contrary to all the rules of law and justice, of fairness and equity, have embarked on an orgy of malicious propaganda and intimidation of the Yoruba by misrepresenting the situation and alleging that Gani Adams had confessed to many dastardly crimes. He is being variously presented as a criminal even before a single day in court.

The Federal Government of General Olúgun Obásanjó is hereby urged to protect democracy and justice in Nigeria and the unity of the nation by calling the Nigeria police to order and withdrawing forthwith, the army of occupation in Lagos. The Egbé strongly urges that if the police has any evidence, it should present it in the court of law and not engage in incendiary propaganda in the media.

The Egbé also holds the Nigerian government and the Nigerian Police fully responsible for the safety of Ganiyu Adams. The Egbé hereby warns that no amount of military force will intimidate the Yoruba race. Also, current police behavior and the army of occupation are a direct threat to the continued unity of Nigeria.

Egbé Omo Yorùbá has set up a Ganiyu Adams Defence Fund to ensure that Ganiyu Adams has a free and fair trial. All donations should be sent to the Egbé at the above address.

All Yoruba Sons and Daughters in the World are hereby urged to be calm and alert while watching closely for any developments.
