We the members of Ekiti political Action Group (EkitiPag), a socio, political, economic and community development group resident in the United States of America. Hereby congratulate the entire people of Ekiti State and the 3rd Executive Governor of our State, Dr. John Olukayode Fayemi for his final and impressive victory in the Court of appeal (Ilorin jurisdiction) on Friday the 15th of Oct. 2010. We equally wish to congratulate the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Olufunlayo Olayinka on this historical victory.
We also like to seize this opportunity to congratulate the Nigerian judiciary, particularly, the set of justices that sat in Ilorin on the said date under the able leadership of Justice Ayo Salami, for writing their names in gold, by ensuring that truth, justice and the rule of law finally prevail over tyranny, injustice, lies, deceits, and do or die political machinations. We sincerely thank the noble judges for giving Nigerians yet another sense of hope in the judiciary as the last safety net of the common man. Moreover, we also congratulate all the brave Nigerians throughout the Country and in the diaspora, who stood on the side of justice, fairness and equity even at the risks and instances of death threats and bodily injuries
Your Excellency, we encourage you to see your victory as a victory for democracy, social justice and the rule of law. Therefore, we will like to first advice you to beware of the establishment and some of the people celebrating you today, but wanted you destroyed yesterday. Secondly, we will like to remind you to see this victory as a call to duty. Hence, we hereby submit to you that now is payback time for the majority of our people who endured much discomfort via denial of basic necessities of life, who witnessed their economic choices and earning potentials shrunk, and their security and safety grossly compromised all in the last 42 months.
Therefore Your Excellency, we appeal to you to move quickly with the speed of Gov. Tunde Fashola of Lagos state, the steadfastness of Gov. Adam Oshiomole of Edo State, and the level headedness of Gov. Mimiko of Ondo State to begin the process of putting in place well tested economic antibiotics, and necessary policy initiatives that will improve the quality of life of our people, because, they have invested so much hope and confidence in you.
Furthermore, we suggest that you should equally begin a policy audit of the previous administration with the purpose of reversing some of the very dangerous policies that were initiated either out of gross partisan considerations, or genuine incompetence. Sir, kindly permit us the advantage of making some suggestions at this juncture:
(1) We suggest that the policy of having multiple State owned Universities (whereas; the State can barely adequately fund one) should be reviewed forthwith
(2) We strongly recommend a thorough review of the policy of practically giving our social assets to few politically connected elites (as witnessed in the last 42 months)
(3) We recommend the immediate restoration of the University of Education (which was approved by the NUC to be located in Ikere Ekiti) back to Ikere Ekiti, and we further suggest that your administration should work with NUC for the University to regain its legal status and remain the second only state owned university (besides UNAD) considering the limited resources that are available to the state. Any other state created universities should be transformed in to private institutions.
(4) We also advise that you make good on your electoral promises that were further reiterated in your inaugural speech with immediate effect
(5) We recommend an immediate review of the Billions of Naira spent on a supposed micro credit scheme that was said will empower our youths for economic independence, whereas; there is no corresponding proof that such a monumental sum of money made its way into Ekiti State economy
(6) We also suggest and immediate review and re organization of the Local Government sector of Government, with the purpose of ensuring an election that is Legal, free and fair as determined by Ekiti State voters
(7) We recommend an urgent payment of all outstanding salaries of the civil servants and all unpaid benefits of the pensioners
Finally your Excellency, we will close by assuring you that we have a litany of policy areas, advice and suggestions for your consideration, but those listed above are the ones that we considered to be in need of immediate attention. Once again, we congratulate you as you take the mantle of leadership of our dear State. Now, just as we supported your candidacy from day one, we in EkitiPag also stood with you throughout the struggle to reclaim your stolen mandate, and now, we hereby promise you maximum support and cooperation as you embark on the monumental tasks of reconstruction, reconciliation and wholesale state building.
Long Live Democracy and long live Ekiti State. Asoro un o! Heee!
