THE MADNESS OF 3RD-TERM
AGENDA EXECUTION
by Chief
Mike Adegboyega Osuolale Oyeniyan
My
contention is not the democracy in the wish for a third term of the
presidency of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, my concern is; why would
billions of DOLLARS be used as inducement to those being begged to
support the agenda in a country where the highest paid civil servant
does not receive one thousand dollars a month as salary? Would
Obasanjo have needed the bribery if he had given unto Ceaser what was
Ceaser’s? Why would a single man’s ambition change the hue of
democracy into a plutocracy? Where is the morality in the present
system of things? I am exasperated!
Perhaps
the President, his Vice, the Senators, the members of the house of
representative, the governors et al see themselves as being immortal
and invincible. I bet not half of them all would be around in the next
thirty years. What do they want all the money Nigeria can produce for?
For eternity of bliss? God whot!
Has
Obasanjo forgotten the heady days of Abacha so soon? How time heals
all wounds with the opium of power! Obasanjo is now in Abacha’s chair
and the rest of Nigerians are feeling about him the way he felt about
Abacha in his (Abacha’s) drunken days.
MY
ADMONITION
Please,
Sir, Chief Matthew Okikiola Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo, Ex-military head of
state, ex-prisoner of conscience under oppression and now DEMOCRATIC
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, clear your head of the
fumes of power-alcohol. You are NOT indispensable. You are going to
die one day like any other mortal. And Nigeria would not perish
because of that. You do not possess the panacea for all Nigeria’s
problems – now and or in the future. Nobody does. You have even failed
woefully to improve on the past. Common, Sir, be as humane as you are
human. You are nothing more than a man. You are not a god. At least
not yet.
We
produced petroleum but had no functional refineries when you came.
Today the story is the same. We import petrol and kerosene.
Power
(electricity) supply was epileptic when you came in 1999. The palsy is
worse today.
Our
Roads were in decay. Now we do not have roads that can go by the name.
We had
a National Airline. Today we do not. The rail system has finally
capitulated.
You
banned and un-banned “tokunbo” motor vehicles, our veritable means of
mobility before you came.
The
industries are yet to operate at full capacity. Unemployment rate is
escalating by the day.
Our
Education world has finally gone caput under your laisez faire
attitude to the work of an academic.
You
instituted a corruption haunting body with selective mandate. And you
want us to do as you say and not as you do.
Mystery
deaths occurred that your police cannot unravel. A murder-accused even
won election from detention by the grace of your party.
Power
corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Do not miss out on the
positive side of history. You have fared well so far. Call in the
reins and sheath your hatchet. We have had enough of the acrimony. May
Jehovah God Bless you more as you do so – Amen.
The
Future Nigeria will thank you if you resist disemboweling her
